It's December 1st! Hey, how about a little inspired-by-Pinterest ornament how-to? Okay!
This one is super simple, and the only spin I made on the Pinterest version is that mine is... red. But by virtue of it being red, it goes from being a snowflake to a Pointsettia. And that is so much more interesting.
Here are the materials:
(Toilet paper tube, ruler, pen, scissors, glue gun, red paint, paintbrush, glue, red glitter.)
Step 1: Mark off every 0.75 inches on the toilet paper tube.
Step 2: Cut at each mark. You'll have a little excess piece to toss (ahem, recycle), and five pieces to keep.
Step 3: Crimp each piece into a pointed oval, then glue the pieces together along the short edge on one side only.
Step 4: Admire the plain almost-Pointsettia.
Step 5: Paint each "petal" inside and out with red paint. Let it dry.
Meanwhile... (don't worry, I didn't leave her in there.)
Step 6: Look! How pretty. But you're not done.
Step 7: Apply glue to the outside only of each petal.
Step 8: Get your glitter on. Let it dry completely, then shake the excess glitter off well.
TIP: Use an empty snack or cereal box to keep your glitter under control, by cutting a panel off and using it like a little glittering box.
BONUS: You'll have a loose box panel that can be cut into any shape and painted and glittered, too, now.

Step 9: Add a hanger for the ornament with some thread or ribbon. If you want, hot glue a bead or more glitter in the center to cover up any raw middle. I used a red bead, since that's what I had on hand. I wish I had a gold bead on hand, though!
Step 10: Hang that sucker on the tree and admire!
I did this project today. But it isn't the only holiday project I've done so far, so there will be more to come!
Happy first day of December to you!
